Skye Whitcher

I have always been interested in health and fitness, playing netball and doing some running to simply keep fit. I completed 1 or 2 smaller triathlons as a teenager with my Dad on my mountain bike. My involvement in the sport was renewed in 2006 when a mate from Uni was after a riding partner. I took the plunge and purchased my first road bike. This same friend introduced me to the Meteors Triathlon Club and the rest is history. I have consistently trained with the Meteors for the past 5 years, starting with just a few sessions a week and before long I was training most days.

The Meteors has enabled me to harness my passion for a fit and active lifestyle, the need to seek personal goals and provides a great environment where all members are encouraged to ‘give it a go’ no matter what their level.

When I joined the Meteors it was simply an opportunity to challenge myself and keep fit. I have achieved things beyond what I could have imagined. Two of my biggest highlights so far have been representing Australia in the Age Group World Championships 2009 and placing 3rd in the Busselton Half Ironman 2010, 20-24 yr age group. Trips away with the Club have certainly been lots of fun too.

Leon has a well structured biannual periodised training plan. He is a highly motivated coach who takes us through 10 sessions a week if you are game! (you can attend 1, a few or all sessions). He is the highest qualified triathlon coach in SA, who knows when to push but also listens and caters for individual athlete needs. I cannot speak highly enough of Leon’s devotion to the club and athletes.

No matter what you level, experience or not, if you have just a tiny desire to swim, ride and/or run with others come and give the Meteors a go!
