Racing As:  Age Grouper (Club Secretary)

Having been in the sport of triathlon now for 16 years or so, I’ve seen the sport develop and change in many ways. However the basics remain the same; it’s all about swimming, running and cycling to the best of our ability, and having fun at the same time.

Like many triathletes, I have to accept that I will likely not win my age group in races but I enjoy the lifestyle of keeping fit and at the same time challenging myself in my training and competing. The discipline of training with like minded people gives encouragement and a bond of friendship across a spread of ages.

At times work and family commitments reduce the amount of time and energy I can devote to training but over the years I’ve learnt to accept that one has to balance aspects of my life but it’s comforting to know that there is a training session not too far away when I’m ready and able.

In Leon, the club coach, we have a truly inspirational figure who motivates and encourages at all training sessions. His attendance at all times of the day from 5.30am until 7.30pm, throughout the year and in all types of weather is an indication of his devotion to the sport and passion for this club.

Having seen triathletes from being children up into the most senior years, I hope to continue to enjoy the benefits of leading the triathlon lifestyle for many years to come.
